Privacy Policy
SafeCap keeps recording data under your control.
This policy explains what the SafeCap Chrome extension processes, where data is stored, and how you can delete it.
Last updated: June 20, 2026
Short Version
SafeCap does not require an account, does not run analytics or telemetry, and does not upload your recordings to SafeCap servers. Recordings and related metadata are stored locally by your browser unless you choose to download or share a file yourself.
Data SafeCap Processes
Depending on how you use the extension, SafeCap may process:
- Screen, window, or browser tab video selected by you through Chrome's capture prompt.
- System or tab audio selected by you through Chrome's capture prompt.
- Microphone audio if you grant microphone permission and enable microphone recording.
- Recording metadata such as recording name, duration, file size, creation date, tab title, and tab URL.
- Transcripts, summaries, and chapters when browser-supported transcript or summarization features are available and used.
Where Data Is Stored
SafeCap stores recording files in browser-managed local storage on your device, using the Origin Private File System where supported. Recording metadata is stored in Chrome extension local storage. Transcript, summary, and chapter data is stored locally with the extension data.
If you download a recording, the exported WebM file is saved wherever you choose through Chrome's download flow.
Network Use
SafeCap does not operate a recording upload service and does not send your recordings, metadata, transcripts, summaries, or chapters to SafeCap servers.
Some optional browser-provided features, such as speech recognition or built-in AI model availability and downloads, are controlled by Chrome and the browser vendor. Depending on your browser, device, settings, and feature availability, those browser services may process data or download models under the browser vendor's terms. SafeCap does not receive that data from the vendor and does not use it for analytics or advertising.
Permissions
SafeCap requests permissions only to support its recording workflow:
- Screen, tab, window, audio, and microphone access allow you to create recordings.
- Storage and unlimited storage allow SafeCap to keep recording files and metadata locally.
- Downloads allow you to export recording files from the local library.
- Tabs or active tab access allow SafeCap to name recordings with helpful tab context such as title or URL.
- Background, side panel, and related extension permissions allow the Chrome extension interface to run reliably.
Data Sharing
SafeCap does not sell personal data, does not share recording data with advertisers, and does not use your recordings for AI training. You control any sharing by downloading a file and sending it through a tool of your choice.
Data Deletion
You can delete data in these ways:
- Delete an individual recording from SafeCap's local recording library.
- Delete related transcripts, summaries, and chapters from the recording library where available.
- Uninstall the extension to remove extension-managed local data from Chrome.
- Use Chrome's site and extension data controls to clear local browser storage.
Children's Privacy
SafeCap is not directed to children. The extension is intended for professional and personal productivity use.
Changes To This Policy
This policy may be updated when SafeCap changes how it processes or stores data. The updated date at the top of this page will change when the policy is revised.
